GREER - The Greer Yellow Jackets ran over Union County 49-21 on Friday night.

Greer dominated the line of scrimmage all night, as Efferlan Williams and Dominique Parks ran wild. In the end, Greer had nearly 500 yards total offense, well over 400 yards on the ground - about all by Williams and Parks, who combined for six touchdowns.

"They were the much quicker football team tonight," said coach David Lipsey.

"I think their team speed really hurt us."

Greer went up 21-0 in the first quarter, with 170 yards total offense in the first period. Parks ran for a 36-yard score. After recovering a Jacket fumble, Williams ran for an 11-yard score. Desmond Parks caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Williams.

"We hurt ourselves early," said Lipsey. "I donšt have the answer. It's like we have to adjust to the speed of the game. For some reason we come out and get behind. We hurt ourselves, then in the second half we come out and play fairly well."

On the first play of the second quarter, Lamont Edney broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run. But Greer answered with an 11-yard score by Williams and then Parks scored on a 22-yard run after GHS marched 99 yards in eight plays for a 35-7 halftime lead.

Greer put up 327 yards total offense in the first half.

Union County showed fight, opening the second half with an 82-yard, 12-play drive to score. Tate Knox caught a 35-yard pass and Aaron West a 13-yard pass from Nick Monroe to set up a 4-yard Edney touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Williams scored on a 5-yard run, capping an 80--yard, 16-play drive.

Jordan Sims recovered a Greer fumble for the final UCHS touchdown. GHS recovered a fumble late and scored on a short run.

Despite the setback, Union County did have limited success offensively in its double wing.

"We think it gives us the best chance," said Lipsey. "We are not very good in the spread. When we get in the spread we tend to go backwards. The double wing is new for us. We've just got to keep working."

UCHS (2-4, 0-1) travels to Riverside next Friday for another region contest.

"Four games to go in this region," said Lipsey. "It's time to go to work and get back in the game. Our guys are resilient, they'll get back off the canvas and be ready to go."
